Description
Needlestick injury or NSI is an accidental percutaneous piercing wound caused by a contaminated sharps instrument, usually a hollow-bore needle from a syringe, and is one of the most frequent routes of transmission in occupationally acquired blood-borne infections. Needlestick injuries are a serious hazard and can expose you to over 20 types of infectious bloodborne pathogens, or BBPs. The most serious pathogens are Hepatitis B or HBV, Hepatitis C or HCV, and the human immunodeficiency virus, HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. This course informs workers on the hazards and prevention strategies of working with needles during patient care and other healthcare settings.
